Lions South Sound Essay Contest

I think the date should be Jan 1, 2014, not December 1, 2014, but I'm posting the South Sound Essay Contest letter the way we received it:

December 1, 2014

Subject: Lions South Sound Essay Contest

To: Club presidents for C-2. C-6 and North Mason Lions Club

A new year is here and a very important part of the contest is needed to be accomplished.  It can only happen if you and your club consider to participate in the judging portion of the contest.

This year, 12 applications were received to interview and be approved to enter the contest.  Only five candidates submitted their essay for judging.  In other words, one of these five candidates will be traveling to a foreign country of their choice, spend 4 to 6 weeks during the summer and stay with at least two host families.

The essays will be read and judged on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Olympics West Retirement Apartments, 929 Trosper Road S. W. in Tumwater.  I look forward to members from your club assisting in the selection of the winners. A continental breakfast, beverages and snacks will be provided.

Thank you for your club support of the Essay Contest.  It is the helping hands of all the clubs that make these programs possible.

Yours in Lionism,

Mel Williamson

ZONE COOKBOOK

Zone Chair Donna Murr has decided to make her 2013 project - a cookbook with recipes and Lion stories from members in our district.

Please remember to send us an email with your special recipe to:  rainierlionsclub@gmail.com.  We welcome recipes, pictures and stories from members from all of the clubs in our area.  We look forward to presenting our 2013 edition of the MD-19 Lions Cookbook!

I know many of our members have wonderful recipes to share.  Pictures & short “Lions” stories that go along with their recipes would be a wonderful addition, too!

We welcome more then one recipe from our members.

District Gov. Great Debate Part II

Hello Lions,

Below is a link to the "Great Debate Part II" to be held on March 6th in Milton, between our 2VDG candidates Bill Evans and Al Hedstrom.  Please send this link out to all your club presidents and secretaries so we can get the widest dissemination possible.

The Fife Lions is sponsoring this event, so it is considered an official visitation as long as two or more of your club members attend.

In addition--and I am told this is a VERY important note--please park in the back parking  lot of the library  facility, since the front doors will be locked and access to the front parking lot will only be available by walking all the way around. (a good long hike)

Click on this link to see the event information:

We will have 50 seats available, so let's fill the hall and learn about our two candidates!

Benefits of the Club Excellence Process

Hi, all –

Submitted for your consideration.

Would you like to …
 - Expand your club’s community service work?
 - Make your club a better organization?
 - Make your club more visible to your community and more attractive to prospective Lions?
 - Develop a short- and long-term plan to pursue these goals?

The Club Excellence Process is designed with these goals in mind.  This process is not something that can be completed in one or two meetings; it requires time and commitment to see it through.  And the results can be truly outstanding.

If you’d like more information on this topic, members of the Faculty Development Team are available to make a presentation to your club.  Don’t hesitate to contact me for more details.
