WHEELCHAIR RAMP PROJECT

July 20, 2017

Tracine Farrow, of the Yelm Lions Club, received a call to help a person who needed a wheelchair ramp.  She called the Lacey Sunrise Lions for assistance. He was admitted into the hospital and his leg was amputated.  He was house bound without the use of a ramp.

On July 20th, members from the Rainier Lions, Yelm Lions, and Lacey Sunrise Lions worked together and constructed a 16 foot ramp.  The project was completed in three hours.

Sheriff's Budget Cuts Shouldn't Impact Rainier

According to the Nisqually Valley News, the Thurston County budget cuts to the Sheriff's budget shouldn't impact the city of Rainier.

At a recent meeting, the Rainier City Council heard about how budget cuts to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department will impact the city’s coverage and a program designed to help small businesses succeed.
City Administrator Charmayne Garrison took the opportunity of having the department’s Lt. Paul Counts in the audience to ask him how the proposed cuts could affect Rainier. The County Commissioners adopted the 2015 budget, which included the sheriff’s budget, on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Rainier Market Destroyed by Fire

According to the Olympian, it looks like the fire that started with faulty wiring at the Rainier Market at about 11:20 PM, destroyed the whole building.  It's going to be a total loss.  This is sad news.  Sarb and Jesse have worked very hard at the market.  It was starting to take off.  Our hearts go out to them and their family.

Olympian Article about Rainier Market Fire

Facebook posting by Thurston County Scanner:

Overnight posts to page thanks to Aaron MacLean "Commercial structure fire. Rainier Market, Rainier. Active fire with heavy smoke and explosions heard inside building. Threat to gas pumps. Defensive strategy." This came to our page around 11:30 last night.

Phoenix Rising Solar Batteries Needed

The Rainier Lions Club received the The Phoenix Rising School Newsletter today in our email box.  They shared information about many interesting activities that their students are working on.  They have one request for a donation.  Please read below:

Solar Batteries

Throughout this year the 5+6 grades have been working diligently on building a Solar Trailer. This is a wheeled device that students can pull all around the campus for AC electricity from the sun. It is also a demonstration of how  photo-voltaic systems, used all over the world, work as a renewable energy.

We are on the home stretch and need a donation of two AMG type solar batteries or $500 to purchase them. If you can help please contact Neil at the Phoenix Rising School. Thank You from the Science Lab

Prefer to send in a check or bring cash into the office?
