Apple Sale Packing Dates: October 20 and
October 27
Thurston County Fair Grounds
3054
Carpenter Rd. SE; Olympia, WA 98503
Packing
will begin on Saturday Oct. 20; gates open at 8:00. If we have the number
of packers we did last year, we will probably be finished by 12:00. Please do
not arrive before 8:00; the gates will not be open.
Most of
the apples will be available on the second Saturday of packing. So it’s
important that many of you plan to give a hand on that day.
Apple
packing on Saturday Oct. 27 will begin at 9:00. Half of the apples are
ready for packing in the morning and a second delivery is made about 12:00. The
later start time is necessary to coordinate deliveries from the orchard. Crews
will need to remain to help with the second delivery in the afternoon. Pizza
will be provided at about 11:30 to keep up our energy.
I am
accepting sign-ups on a first-come, first-choice basis. We will need packers on
both days. But, since most of the apples will be coming on Oct. 27th,
I would appreciate as many clubs as possible to schedule on Oct. 27. Once I’ve
built a schedule, I will notify you of your date.
Please
remember that we need your help packing until the job is done. This is a Lions’
community project which won’t work if everyone packs just the apples they sell.
We have individual Lions who have built sales networks over the years and sell
as many as 300 boxes each. Camp Leo also generates many sales which are not
linked to a specific Lion. You can see why your club needs to pack more than
they have sold.
You are
welcome and encouraged to come both days to help with this big job. Remember, to enlist your youngsters, teens, young adults etc.
If you
are no longer the apple chair and wish to have your name removed from the apple
contact list, please send me a reply. If you’re removing your name from my list,
be certain I have another contact for your club.
Let me
know if you have any questions.
