Thank you for everything you do. This is like a big family. She mentions
who
is on
the Zone Staff. The staff is just a phone call or email away. Cindy Bloom
has
been a
member for 15 years! Dee has an award for Cindy. George Johnson will get
the
award to
Cindy.
Acknowledges Brenda Flaherty for doing a great job as
our secretary. She is pleased that Brenda took over
this position, considering she is a brand new member to our
club.
We are a
"fruity club" with peaches, pears, nectarines, apples and grapefruit
sales.
Our
Bluegrass Festival was a great success, with 80 performers/campers who came
and
stayed.
Don't
forget Project New Hope. Multi-district project. Please put $250 in your
budget
to
support this project. This has been raised from $240 to $250 this year due to
the
costs.
Jim
McDermott: Talks about 2 10 year old girls that were at one of the PNH camps
and one of the
girls screamed when putting angle worms on the hook. Each girl caught a fish.
It was
fun.
Dee:
Presented all the kids with fishing poles. Mike O'Byrne was there with 17 kids
in
the
park.
Project
New Hope is for any veteran of any age. They have retreats for vetrans. It
costs
approximately $4000 to put on one retreat. This year
and last year there were 3 retreats.
There
were 44 volunteers helping along with professional counsilors to help the
families.
The
retreats are held at Elbow Lake in the Yelm area. Many of the vetrans have
PTSD. This effects
the children.
More
volunteers are needed to help with the children. The age ranges of the children
are
10
months to 16 years. A lot of the children are either autistic or have ADHD.
The children need
more activities that are age appropriate.
Dee said
the Zone Committee has a CD that clubs can have to learn about Project New
Hope.
Dee:
Roy Lions has a fundraiser coming up. Their president, Kim, is asking for help
from
other
clubs.
Dee:
First Responders - do something for the fire and police departments. Please
donate
donuts,
cake or cookies to them on November 30, 2012.
Dee:
Dave Risley thinks that announcing all the MMR's and VAD's is redundant, so it
will
not be
done this year. This year they want us to announce how we are having a
"Positive
impact
on our community."
George:
Reader board announcing what we are doing. Have had the public volunteer on
the road
clean-up. Scholarship program for seniors graduating from high school. There
are LIONS welcome
signs on both directions of Highway 507. Dee suggested we put a welcome sign on
Rainier Road
coming into town by the RR Trestle.
Dee:
Excellence Program - get together with community businesses - interview business
owners and as
what we can do for them. We are well acquainted with most business owners in
the area, as
they are with you.
Jim
McDermott: Sandwich board announcing our meetings.
George:
We're paying for cataract surgery for a truck driver so he can go back to
work.
The
family heard about us through word of mouth.
George:
We have approval from the City of Rainier to build a concession stand in the
park
by the
rest rooms and covered picnic tables. Mayor Randy is going to get approval for
the
county.
Dee: DG
Dave is family oriented. The Lions is his second family. Born in Minneapolis
MN. He's a
second generation Lion. His daughter is third generation. His is retired
military & worked
there in computers. He's got a great sense of humor. He's a serious treckie.
His
passion
is for acting & the theater. He's a professional
locksmith.
He will
be here October 8, 2012. He asks to have a speaker talk prior to his
speaking.
When DG
stand and applaud when he rises and sits down. When he rises, you rise. When
he sits,
you sit down.
When the
District Governor comes, George introduces Dee. Dee will introduce the District
Governor. Club
members, please feel free to ask him questions. He is here for us. He will
meet with the board of
directors after our meeting with him, so the board members need to remain after
the meeting. He has a few
questions for our board.
George:
1.
Essay contest. Linda Lazelle and Gene Cinkovich will go over to the school
to
present
the essay contest and scholarship. Linda and George will get together to go
over
the
scholarship.
2. The
MD-19 pin designing contest is on right now. Submit 3 copies of pin
design
to the
district.
3.
Diabetes Chair - each club needs to pick a chair for this project - this will
be
just a
contact person.
4.
Bluegrass was a great success. This is the last year that Art and Charlotte
Runyan
will
manage the festival.
5.
Peaches Pears and Nectarines were a huge success.
6.
Apples are coming up. We hope we can do as good a job as we did on the
PPN.
7.
Admin auction: We may not need to have an auction this year. We will discuss
this
at the
next board meeting. We had a pancake breakfast last year at the same time as
we
had the
auction. It was a "good will" project in our area.
8.
Halloween - bonfire and cider/cocoa with the kids.
9.
Christmas Caroling: Rainier Mayor, Randy, asked us to carol when the city
lights the
Christmas Trees.
Dee:
First Zone Meeting is October Meeting in DuPont 5:45 to 6:00. Dinner will be
at
6:15.
Second zone meeting is Lacey Lamplighters. Tenino is running it by their board
to
have the
third zone meeting. The fourth zone meeting is up in the air. If Tenino
doesn't
want to
host the 3rd meeting, George offered to have the Rainier Lions Club host it.
There
was no
objection.
Meeting
adjourned at 7:56 PM. Pie and whipped cream was served.
