before introducing his cabinet officers, 1st VDG Marilynn Danby, 2nd
VDG John Kirry, Secretary Jeannie Phillips & Treasurer Art Weatherly.
His format for meetings is
a change from years past; no reports will be given orally but rather be posted
on our website each month. Our meeting
format is designed to be informational and useful.
Two weeks before each cabinet meeting the secretary will notify cabinet members to submit their written report due one week before the date set for the next cabinet meeting.
Anyone wishing to give an oral report is to make a request to him in order to be scheduled on the agenda. Those asking for speaking time will be give 4 minutes in which to cover their topic.
Consent to accept the
reports submitted for this meeting was asked for and given.
Written reports are listed
on our website www.md19clions.org
6:55- 7:00 pm 2nd VDG John reviewed the escrow account
budget. He explained the items listed.
No questions followed after which 1VDG Marilynn moved that the budget be
accepted, seconded by 2nd VDG John, motion carried.
The first
report was given by PCC Dick Risley, Poulsbo Evening Pride Club. Doctors from Madigan Hospital had contacted
lions concerning help needed for a wounded soldier coming here for
treatment. Having been severally injured
while fighting in Afghanistan, losing sight in both of eyes, leg injuries and
other life threatening injuries this young soldier from the Republic of Georgia
was flown here for intense treatment that couldn’t be done in his home country.
Most of his
medical bills are being taken care of however now that his family has been able
to join him there is a need for other help that isn’t covered by
insurance. His son Nickolas is unable to
walk because he had cerebral palsy. LCI
has been asked if there is anything they can do to help, the need for food is
being taken care of by someone from Gig Harbor.
Clubs within our district are stepping up to do what they can to
help. If you or your club wants to get
involved please contact PCC Dick.7:07- 7: 8 pm DG asked if either our 1st or 2nd VDG had anything they would like to say, both declined.
7:08 – 7:09 pm The next report, not listed on the agenda, was to be Bob Johnson, Fife Lions. He asked to have his subject for having a forum to introduce the candidates running for 2nd VDG is postponed until he has time to meet with the Zone Chairs.
7:09 – 7:13 pm Cabinet
member for Camp Leo, Lonzell Johnson, Enumclaw Lion, reviewed how camp did this
year. Moving to a new location made it
possible for #167 kids with diabetes to enjoy the experience of a safe
environment while learning to deal with their diabetes. Lonzell's goal is to have at least half of
the clubs in our district involved in next year’s camping activities. $37,000 was raised from clubs to support the
expenses of camp this year.
Asked to share the story of the bear, he told
us they had a bear sniffing dog with them while going on the traditional 8th
grade overnight, the dog alerted, bear nearby; they packed up all their gear
and return to base camp feeling thankful for having this dog with them.
7:17 – 7:21 pm Conference
chair PDG Dave Pratt gave an overview of all the changes that will come about
at this years’ spring conference. The
conference theme “Family Reunion” follows from the District Governor's theme
“Families in Service” and will feature 3 motivational speakers at the dinners
and lunch. Friday evening will be the
more formal dinner, followed by a more casual Saturday filled with officer
training classes, breakout sessions
and ending with a family style dinner.
Aug. 18 anyone wanting to be involved in the process of helping was
asked to join him and co-chair Jacqueline at the LaQuinta when they meet with
the hotel management. All the changes
being implemented come from a questionnaire; based from the answers we provided
he hopes we accept these new ideas.
A website for the conference will be online
in September. PDG thanked 1st VDG Marilynn Danby for her
several years of serving as our conference chair.
7:21- 7:23 pm Conference
chair of contest and awards, Don Becker, Spanapark Early Risers lion, will keep
us posted on new ideas after the meeting Aug. 18.
7:23 – 7:27 pm USA/Canada
Forum will announce the city selected to host 2016 event. We are in the running; the announcement will
be Sept 14th during this year’s forum being held in Florida. PDG Dave Pratt will be attending the
forum. A Packet of information was sent
to all the International Directors promoting our site for 2016. IF chosen the city of Tacoma will be temporarily
renamed City of Lions. The committee
working this promotion consists of DG Dave Risley, PDG Rick Drury, PDG Dave
& Jacqueline Pratt, 1st VDG Marilynn Danby, 2nd VDG
John Kirry & PID Roger Richert (District B).
7:27 – 7:30 pm 2nd VDG John Kirry
announced a budget meeting will follow this meeting. DG Dave Risley advised the need for a
communications chair came out of the recent cabinet planning session. Leadership Chair, Sharon Sikes and PDG Dave
Pratt will work out the duties of this position and bring it to the next
cabinet meeting.
7:30 – 7:40 DG Dave
gave a series of announcements: Lions for Life is falling flat, the name may be
playing a role where as the content is very helpful. The “club excellence process” there’s help
for those wanting to use it. The line of
communications from the district to the clubs has been revised; note the back
of the agenda for its format. Example:
Cabinet secretary works with Zone Secretary who then will work with Club
Secretary.
PDG John
Bergvall asked DG Dave what his most inspirational memory is of his trip to
Korea. DG answered: while visiting with
the lions from Germany and India he noticed the difference in how they are
involved in their lion’s service. Lions
clubs is the only service organization in India, the Rotary Club is starting to
make its presents known however. He was
reminded of how our country encourages us to lift ourselves up and achieve our
passions. The lack of this being
available in other countries made him so proud and happy he’s a USA Lion.
A series of
announcements followed, everyone was encouraged to pass club activities on to
the cabinet secretary who will post them on our www.md19clions.org website.
Hearing no
other announcements DG Dave adjourned the meeting at 7:40 pm
Respectfully
submitted,
