Celebrate International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day The United Nations' International Literacy Day, celebrated September 8, will focus attention on worldwide literacy needs. Your club can join with Lions around the world to commemorate this special day by organizing a service project to promote reading and education in your community. It's easy to get started. Simply access the Lions Reading Action Program for user-friendly resources, including a planning guide, project idea sheet, partnership opportunities, promotional bookmarks and more. Document your club's literacy activity through the LCI online Service Activity Report by May 1, 2013, and receive the new colorful Reading Action Program banner patch. August Global Service Action Campaign
This month's Global Service Action Campaign focuses on "Engaging Our Youth." Lions can engage youth in service by planning projects to which young people can relate. Encouraging their input and participation can help today's youth gain valuable leadership skills in a world of service. Project ideas include painting a playground, donating supplies to local schools, organizing a board game drive and more. Learn more about "Engaging Our Youth" and our other Global Service Action Campaigns. For questions, contact programs@lionsclubs.org.
