Rainier Lions Club Sponsors Children (with Diabetes) to go to Camp Leo

Rainier Lions Fuji Apple Sales, all profit will go to Camp Leo (for children with Type 1 Diabetes).   A way to make sure your child attends Camp Leo is to volunteer  (family, friends or camper) with the Rainier Lions, during their community service projects, in the current  Lions year that is from now to June 30, 2019.  Then the Club will sponsor your child for Summer 2019 Camp Leo!   Come to the Lions meeting on the 4th Monday of the month, Rainier Chapel at 5:30 p.m. or contact the Rainier school nurse. (The Club limits the number of children sponsored.)

Camp Leo to Benefit from Rainier Lions Club Annual Apple Sales!

Camp Leo is the ONLY overnight camp in Western Washington exclusively dedicated to children with Type 1 Diabetes.

This year our apples will be packed at the orchard this year.  You will buy 40# of fresh, crisp, Fuji Apples for $40.00!  These are beautiful apples that keep fresh for a long time, so you can make pies, apple crisps, turnovers, applesauce, apple butter, and just eat them fresh out of the box!

The Rainier Lions Club would like you to know that Camp Leo for Children with Diabetes will benefit from their Fuji Apple Sales this year.  Camp Leo was established in 1990.  You can read about Camp Leo in the links below.

Camp Leo Needs LIONS to Volunteer

Dear Lion Friends of Camp Leo,

I know that some of you are already wondering how you can help at camp this coming summer.  Camp dates are as follow:

Middle school camp is July 14 to 19th
Elementary camp is July 20th to 23rd
High School camp is July 20th to 25th

The following are areas that we do need Lion volunteer help. Look this list over and decide where you or your club may be able to help. If you can assist in any of these please contact me, Pauline Ostheller, at 360 598 2239 or email: lady.osth@gmail.com.

  • Clean lodge and Creekside lodge on Wed. morning July 24th
  • Provide a BBQ dinner for 250 campers and their families on Tuesday July 23rd. This can be done alone or in conjunction with another Lions club. If necessary, Camp Leo can pay for the food if the club buys and cooks the food. Menu is flexible.
  • Provide a craft/art project for a day. You will conduct four sessions with 8 to 16 children per session. July 15-18, 21-24.
  • The following are Middle School Camp activities where we need Lions help in leading and/or assisting.

Hike: (ridge/creek hike) Morning and Afternoon sessions
Monday, July 15
This is a short and simple hike up a trial behind the main lodge. The first 100-150 yards is relatively uphill after which there is a slight leveling out as the route follows a logging road. The trail will be marked if volunteers elect to lead this activity.

GPS Hunt:  Morning sessions
Monday July 15, Tuesday July 16 or Thursday July 18
This is a scavenger hunt where each competing cabin is given a GPS locator device and asked to find certain areas and items around camp. The list of coordinates will be determined ahead of time for participants.

 Grid Games:  Afternoon sessions
Monday July 15, Tuesday July 16 or Thursday July 18
This is a series of super sized board games including Yahtzee, Battle Ship and Checkers (possible for more to come). Precise description of each game is available.

Skit Search:
Monday, July 15 and Thursday, July 18 morning session, Tuesday, July 16, and Wednesday, July 17, afternoon session.
This is a traditional scavenger hunt where the group, upon finding all items on the list, puts together a skit which they will perform at camp fire that night.

Archery:  afternoon sessions
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, July 15th, 16th, or 17th.
Bows and arrows. What more needs to be said?  Assist or lead if you have training.

Game Room:
Tuesday, morning session, Wednesday, afternoon session, or Thursday morning session
Below the dinning hall of the lodge is a game room equipped with pool tables, ping pong tables and foosball.  Participate and monitor.

Camp Olympics:
Thursday 3:10-5:30
A series of relay and challenge games where cabins compete for bragging rights. A full list of games and details will be made available later.
