Thurston County to loose 6 Sheriff's in 2015

Sheriff: Not Enough Money in Budget

THURSTON COMMISSIONERS EXTEND 2015 BUDGET COMMENT PERIOD

It's time for all citizens in Thurston County to ROAR like Lions!!  The Thurston  County Sheriff's Department will loose 6 sheriffs in 2015, according to the guidelines in the 2015 proposed budget.  In this economy, this is bad news.  (Nisqually Valley News article HERE.)

Our Sheriffs support us 24/7.  We need to support them, now.

According to Thurston County Commission Chair Karen Valenzuela, the on-line version of the preliminary budget had some problems. "Apparently, some figures in the on-line budget document displayed improperly, making it hard to understand those parts of the budget. County staff are revising the tables and we want to make sure people have time to review the corrected budget and comment if they would like."

So they've extended the public comment period from October 10th to October 24th.  Go to article HERE.

To email your public comments send to:  tcbocc@co.thurston.wa.us

There are several ways to make comments-
  • By mail at- 2000 Lakeridge Drive SW, Olympia, WA, 98502, Attn. Commissioners
  • By phone- 360-786-5440
  • By Email- tcbocc@co.thurston.wa.us (Reaches all three commissioners - Cathy Wolfe, Sandra Romero & Karen Valenzuela

There must be other areas where Thurston County can make cuts.

White Cane Days May 2nd at Jim Bob's Chuck Wagon & May 4th At Rainier Texaco

Hello Rainier Lions,
Please see the White Cane Days Schedule for Thursday, May 2nd at Jim Bob's Chuck Wagon, 35119 State Rt. 507, McKenna, WA, 10 AM to 7 PM.  We still need 2 volunteers for the 1 to 4 PM shift.  Also, if you can fill in should someone not be able to make it, please let me know.

We will be inside the restaurant and a portion of Jim Bob's proceeds for this day will be donated to the Rainier Lions Club for White Canes!  Thanks to President George for making this happen.

Cheryl Porter is the contact person at Jim Bob's.

A special thank you to Jim Bob's Chuck Wagon for their community service support!

On Saturday, May 4th, 10 AM to 4 PM, Rainier Lions will be set up at the Rainier Texaco.  We will be outside and the weather is usually raining, windy and cold -- but that could change!  To the volunteers who signed up for Saturday, please keep this in mind and wear warm clothing.  If we have volunteers to work past 4 PM and people are contributing, we can be at the Texaco until 5 or 6 PM.  Shanna Harritt is the contact person at Rainier Texaco.

I have included White Cane Days information for the new members -- and a refresher for all of us -- also Multiple District 19's overview of 2012.
Rainier Lions White Cane Days donations in 2012 was over $200.00.
Any questions, please let President George or me know.
THANK YOU FOR GENEROUSLY VOLUNTEERING YOUR TIME!
