Rainier Family Fun Day 2014
Thanks to Rainier Chapel, “Rainier Family Fun Day” had a wonderful turnout all
afternoon. The Rainier Chapel is a tremendous asset to our community. To the
best of my knowledge they have never turned any group down when asked to use the
church grounds for an event. There always seems to be something going on
there and I hope, if the day ever comes that they need help, the entire
community comes to their aid. Pastor Mark and the congregation always seem to
be here for us all.
Rob Donaldson and his team represented the American Legion post 264. His
pet parrot was a huge success, as it greeted all the children that showed up. Lions Chris Beck and Walt Dohring made a special bird house for Rob’s
parrot, in-between making bird houses with all the kids that wanted to make one.
George Johnson taught people about Mason Bees and helped kids make their own
bee hive. Kids were fascinated with the birds and the bees. It was neck and
neck between bee hives and bird houses. Brandi Howell and Julia Green
from Rainier Cub Scout Pack 307 – helped kids make bouncing balls from safe
household supplies, as well as nesting tubes for the Mason Bee Hives. Juliette
Pia, and her crew from Rainier Community Cares, painted faces and applied
tattoo's to anyone who asked. Smiling people of all ages wandered around
with tattoo’s & painted faces.
Bruce, from Rossi Boots, was there with his amazing 3-D printer that kept
busy making whistles and other things. Amazed children and adults alike looked
on, as it built items layer – by - layer. Linda Johnson from the Lions and
Damion Green from the Cub Scouts helped make spinning tops. This was the first
top many children had ever seen or played with. Jeanine Pia from Rainier
Community Gardens worked outside, showing people how to make worm raising
beds. Worm beds were a huge hit under her tent with dirt, scraps of paper,
water dirt and of course wiggling worms.
Lion Linda Lazelle kept things running smooth in the kitchen cooking hot
dogs and managing the beverage area, while giving direction to visitors. Out in
front of the church the “New Life” youth group had a very successful yard sale.
Some children flew kites, in the field next to the church. Parents and
children all left in smiles. A lot of these people will be back to help
participate in Rainier Community Cares summer lunch program latter this year.
All in all, it was a very busy day at the chapel. People of all ages joined in
the fun at Rainier Family Fun Day.
