  the reason we invited them to speak to our group, local businesses in the area as well as           members from other Lions Clubs in MD-19.

Rainier Emergency Food Center: "Help Us Help Others"

Inside the Rainier Emergency Food Center

The Rainier Emergency Food Center is a non-profit organization that serves people in rural Thurston County.  It is a satellite of the Thurston County Food Bank.   They are currently the second largest center in Thurston County, serving the many families and individuals affected by the current down-turn in the local economy. They serve an average of eight hundred families per month.

Special delivery service is available to people who qualify. 

Rainier Emergency Food Center (REFC) has an open door policy and provides after-hours service for people in need. They currently operate through the generosity of donations and grants. They currently have twenty three dedicated volunteers servicing those in need.

Rainier FFA Trick-or-Eat

Pig Roast this Saturday

This Saturday!

You're invited to Pig Roast

at the Valley Heart Christian Center in Rainier. The Church is sponsoring this event in celebration of the Rainier Emergency Food Center's Second Anniversary.

We will swing by after our harvest party on Saturday and join our friend's at the food bank. Hope to see you there too!

The Food Bank is also having a Flea Market this weekend at the church: Friday and Saturday 9/13 & 9/14 from 10 am - 6 pm.

All sales will help support the Food Bank.

Rainier Community Garden Canning Classes were a Success!

We had a great time at last weekend's Food Preservation and Hands-on Canning Classes at Rainier High School. A special thank you to Lois Willman, Master Food Preserver from Lewis County WSU Extension for teaching the classes and to the Rainier Lion's Club for helping to host the event. 12 people attended the Food Preservation Class and learned tips and safety guidelines. 7 people went home with a jar of freshly canned peaches. They were very proud of the work they did and their new baby peaches. They even posed for their "peach portraits". Check out these photos!

George & I attended the food preservation class.  It was very interesting & fun.  We learned a lot.  We are grateful to everyone who attended the classes.  Thank you for coming.  We also want to thank the following people who helped make this class possible:

To those of you who are canning up a storm, you can buy your Fuji Apples from the Rainier Community Garden this year, too.  They supplied over 4,500 pounds of food to our Rainier Emergency Food Bank this year.

The upcoming Rainier Lions Club activity is a fundraiser for Fuji Apples.  They're selling 40# boxes of top quality Fuji Apples for $30.00.  The apples will be delivered the second or third Saturday in October.
