Minutes for March 10, 2014

MEAL 6:30-7 P.M.

7 P.M. MEETING
Pledge of Allegiance
Sing:  AMERICA
KL George:  PRAYER

Everybody can be great….because anybody can serve.  You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.  You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love.”

Martin Luther King Jr.

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”
Leo Buscaglia

KL George Johnson:
Guests:  Bruce Palmer, Jim LaBelle, Bill Miller, Clifford Brandsma

Basket for REF Auction was put together by Phyllis at the Rainier Emergency Food Center.  She did a beautiful job.  You'll be able to see it at the Silent Auction.

Pine Wood Derby will be open to the public.  The scout troops will pay for their trophies.  The Rainier Lions Club voted to provide trophies to the winners of the races that the public at large participate in.  Bernice motioned, Ruth seconded the motion and the motion was carried to buy trophies.  (Estimate is $50 - 75.00 total.)

Reading of Club Officers 2014 – 2015
  President:  George Johnson
  Vice President:  Bud Green
  Secretary:  Evan Burnett
  Treasurer:  Kay Bryant
  Lion Tamer:  Walt Dohring
  Tail Twister:  Chris Beck
  Membership Retention:  Bernice Beck

Bruce Palmer showed his 3D printer to the group - along with several items that he's made with it:  toys, sprinkler, boxes and a working differential.  It's an amazing machine - which has 2 excruders, so it can make an item with 2 colors in it.

Bruce also shared about his business "Rossi Boots."  Bruce and his wife, Trisha, import there boots from Australia.  The company has been in business for over 100 years.  After the workday is done, employees go home - shower and get dressed in suit and ties. Then they go to the owners house for dinner.  The respect they're treated with has created a loyalty that lasts generations.
They have 3 generations of employees working for them.

Bernice will create a visitation schedule for Fruit Sales Visitations.

Family Fun Day (April - May) Walt & Chris will co-chair this event Kites, bird houses, food  (There will be another Family Fun Day in June with the Lions & Rainier Community Cares.)

Scholarship – Brenda will chair.  She will set up appointments for the applicants to speak to the Rainier Lions Club.  (There are 4 applicants, so we will have 2 speak at 2 separate meetings.)

LERC March 28th – collected 36 pair in 5 days from drive up box

Crossing Flags:  George spoke with Mayor of Rainier, Randy.  We have the "Go ahead" to get the flags.  We'll provide 24 flags to begin with.  Rainier Community Cares will buy the next batch.  We'll alternate - so there are enough flags for all four crosswalks on downtown 507.

Tail Twister

At the end of the meeting, George read the notice about the Rainier City Council meeting.  The council will be voting on implementing Sustainable Thurston, in our area.  There was a brief discussion about Sustainable Thurston County and Agenda 21.  This was not a subject about Lions, so Chris Beck asked that the discussion end.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 PM.
