I'm sorry I forgot to post our minutes for our meeting on February 24th. Here are the minutes:

KL George: PRAYER
“You may not have4 saved a lot of money in your life, but if you have saved a lot of heartaches for other folks, you are a pretty rich man.”

“It wasn’t the reward that mattered or the recognition you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment, your quality of service, the product of your devotion – these were the things that counted in life. When you gave purely, the honor in giving, and that was honor enough.”
― Captain Scott O’Grady

KL George Johnson:
Guests: Jeannine Pia
Cataract Surgery: The surgery motioned for acceptance by Brenda F and seconded by Linda J. Motion carried unanimously to pay secondary to Medicare for the surgery. (Patient name withheld due to HIPPA regulations.) The cost s/b approximately $700. The NW Lions Foundation won't cover the surgery or secondary because the patient has Medicare as their primary carrier.
George recommended that RLC contact Roy Lions and Yelm Lions to see if they'll cover part of the
secondary costs, as the patient lives in McKenna. (Roy & Yelm are closer to McKenna then Rainier.)

Jeannine Pia talked about Rainier Community Garden & the contributions they're making to the community of Rainier. They have a monthly potluck on the third Tuesday of each month. Starting in Spring, they will have work parties at the garden every Saturday from 9 AM to Noon. They grew over 3,000 pounds of fresh food and donated over 2,500 pounds of that food to the Rainier Emergency Food Center. They have 39 raised beds and have a newly planted orchard. They need help spreading mulch around the fruit trees in the orchard - after they get their watering system in place.
George will go to the City Council Meeting Tues. Night to get approval to purchase Crossing Flags for the four cross walks on 507 in downtown Rainier.
The members of the Lions Club discussed building the Concession Stand. We've waited about 2 years for final approval, which hasn't been forthcoming. We decided to table that idea. George suggested that we turn over the Burger Den to the Girls Scouts. (They'll discuss this opportunity and get back to us.) We decided not to rent the Burger Den trailer and just put up a canopy and tables to work on by the covered area in the park.
Bonnie Zimmerman gave us 4 Scholarship Apps that were received timely. We actually picked them up late because Bonnie was out ill, but they were in on time. Some of the applicants have completed some of their Lions community service activities already.
Recent Activities:
- Handrail in Senior Center was installed
- Wheel Chair Ramp - was accessed for Bob Kelly. The fact is that the patient has a wheel chair ramp already and a deck. He wants the deck & ramp removed and re-installed because there is some rot in the wood. The deck is attached to the patient's home, so this job will require a licensed & bonded contractor. Bob Kelly (Lacey Sunrise) concurs with George's evaluation.
- BINGO at Rainier Elementary School - FUN. Go if you get a chance. Tim Garchow is the best BINGO caller. Watch out for the "traffic jams at the prize table" tho! The "Seahawks" basket raffle earned the playground extension fund $500.00!!! Ida & Faith have earned over $15,500 towards the playground improvements in just a few months!
- Coffee with a Cop - was very busy. Sonja put the group in the back of her restaurant, so they may have this event at a different place - City Hall or ?? Very informative event. (Article on another blog post.)
- Valley Heart FREE Breakfast has been moved to the last Saturday morning of every month. They serve breakfast free, as people run out of food then and many don't get paid until the beginning of the next month.

The club decided to give a basket and Christmas tree to the Rainier High School REF Auction. The Rainier Lions Club is one of their sponsors ($150.00)
George asked for volunteers to cook dinners, or for members to decide whether to Cook; have a Potluck, or have our meals catered.
